More than a decade after joining Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, David Barillot’s passion for sales remains undimmed. Since 2007, he has five times achieved The President’s Club – the fiercely contested Four Seasons award granted to top sales personnel and based on high productivity scores.
David has proved adept in working with clients from a wide variety countries and sectors and at a diverse range of Four Seasons properties. He joined the company in 2003, when he was appointed Sales Manager at Four Seasons Resort Provence at Terre Blanche in France, participating in the opening and launch of the former Four Seasons property. After two years of handling the leisure sector (working with clients from USA, UK, Russia, France, Benelux and Scandinavia), he headed north to Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris. As Sales Manager at this iconic property, he handled leisure, entertainment, group and corporate accounts for the UK, Middle East and Russian markets. From March 2010 until his posting to South Africa in 2013, David served as Director of Sales at Four Seasons Hotel Doha in Qatar.
David grew up in a small coastal village in Brittany, western France, before studying Hotel and Tourism Management at ESC Rennes, a leading French business school. In 1998, while doing his master’s degree, he participated in an exchange program with the University of KwaZulu-Natal, spending six months in Durban. It was here that an interest in South Africa was ignited.
“It’s wonderful to be back in such a beautiful, exciting country,” David says – and it’s not just because this rugby-lover has returned to a country as passionate about the game as he is. “I’ve always believed that sales and marketing is not just about selling your property – it’s also about attracting travellers to the city and country the property is based in. Joburg has so much potential, and it’s exciting that my role contributes to both showcasing and participating in its renaissance.”
David believes a lot of visitors will be pleasantly surprised by what the city has to offer. “Many international travellers don’t realize that Joburg is not merely a bustling economic hub – the past decade has also seen a vibrant creative scene emerge, and with it, a rapidly rejuvenating and incredibly vibey city centre. Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff is the perfect gateway from which to experience this exciting transformation while offering guests the superlative Four Seasons hospitality they have enjoyed elsewhere around the world.”
